This is it! Final results, and the announcement of the winner of the Hot-Off!

Here we are at the end of what has been a really marvelous experience for me, and, I hope, for all of you. Now I get to keep you in suspense as long as I can, while you read my envoi.

First, I want to salute the writers, and in particular the four semi-finalists. I think they've all shown that their work deserves a much longer look than they were able to provide here, so in addition to the links to the story-posts in which their Hot-Off stories appeared that you can find in earlier posts on this blog, I'm going to set you up right now with links to where you can find them elsewhere on the 'net.

The semi-finalists:

Tara Crescent is a writer of erotic fiction. She believes in sassy submissives, firm Dominants, completely consensual relationships and happily-ever-afters! In the first semi-final match, between Tara Crescent and Will LaForge, the judges voted as follows:

• Judge 1: Ooh, so hard to choose both stories are super hot! But story 1 has the edge. It's dialogue was sizzling!
• Judge 2: Both effectively used the required word, *fork*, but for me number two was just a little more engaging in its heat and suspense.
• Judge 3: Wow, you were right. Both stories are amazingly hot and deserve to win. I know we only get to pick one though so i think story one had a bit of an edge with me. The scene was sexy and playful with a great ending.
• Judge 4: Wow!!! Both were scorching hot! I very much enjoyed both stories. These are definitely the hottest yet. I am voting for story one because of the build up to the climax. Nice job to the both of you!
• Judge 5: Tara and Will, you could not have made this any harder. Both stories were exceptionally written, detailed, and incredibly hot. Both had loving relationships laced with humor. I had to read both of them three times in order to make my decision (i'm not complaining!!). In the end, my vote goes to story two. I truly enjoyed the dialogue between the two of them, not to mention the lovely improvised nipple clamps! When he said, "Get naked, Amy", I shared her full body shiver!
• Judge 6: Wow. Are you sure that we can't vote for both stories because I would really like that. But, if I have to only chose one I'd chose Story 1. :-) 
• Judge 7: Voting for Story 1. Hot, a mystery, a game and a happy ending!
• Judge 8: Both stories used the key word very well, and had a lot of hot elements. I'll vote for Story 1. I found it creative but focused and it didn't rush. The author used his/her word count to get to the punch line without diversion. Kudos to both authors.

The writer of Story 1 went through to the finals.

In the second semi-final, between Justine Hollander and Etta Stark, the judges voted as follows:

• Judge 1: I thought it was cute that both stories included dates in the early stages. Both authors did an excellent job of painting the scene, seeming unrushed, and yet not using any unnecessary words. I was very turned on by story number 1, what can I say I'm a spanko. ;-) So, I would vote for 1, but both were excellent!
• Judge 2: Story 1! That was such a hot spanking scene!
• Judge 3: Holy moly, those are both hot. I loved the "shall we take this to the bedroom" comment in story one. It was hot, but story two blew me away. So much story packed into 500 little words. The intensity was amazing and chemistry between them so hot. My vote goes to story #2. I'd love to hear more about Paul and Fiona.
• Judge 4: Oh wow, this is a very difficult decision. Both stories are hot in their own manner, both use the required word, *fork*, and both make me want to read so much more about the potential works behind them! Since I have to vote, though if I had a choice it'd be more of a tie, I'll say number two just because it's a fantasy of my own.
• Judge 5: Wonderful stories, written by masterful story tellers. This was a really tough choice. I'll go for Story 2. It was punchy, sexy and had an excellent wrapup. Congratulations to both excellent writers.
• Judge 6: Congrats to both for great stories. I'm really struggling with this one. I think the second story might be slightly better written than the first story, but the first story was really hot. I loved the spanking scene. So close. I'm going with my gut on this one. Story one. Great job to the both of you.
• Judge 7: These two stories are eminently worthy of the semi-finals of what has been a wickedly entertaining tournament. I extend my congratulations to both authors for making it this far. Story#1 - I love the banter and dialogue between the two characters, I could easily visualize the scene. Use of the word 'fork' was nicely handled because us Americans are definitely wont to switch the fork from our left hand to the right. A spanking as the after dinner dessert worked for me. Story#2 - Hot, hot, hot. The chance encounter of ex-lovers touching hands over a dropped fork was quite creative.The bathroom sex scene could have qualified for a Mile High Club encounter. I vote for Story #2 based on sheer sizzle.
• Judge 8: Voting for Story 1. I'm a sucker for a little humor in a spicy story. Although I did appreciate the use of 'errant cutlery' in story 2. ;) 
• Judge 9: Both stories were excellent, but Story 2 had the added dimension of real emotion in it. A happy-ever-after is no easy feat given the word constraints, and I think this story delivered it! I vote for Story 2.

Story 2: 5 votes

Story 2 won, in the closest vote of the entire tournament, and its writer went through to the final.

Thus (just to keep the suspense going), A faced Y in the final, and B faced X in the consolation match.

Both those matches happened in this post, and here's how the voting went. Votes with one decision come from the semi-finalists themselves, who of course only voted on the match in which they weren't competing.

• Judge 1: Match A: Both stories are so good it's really difficult to choose, but the electric chemistry between Julianna and her anonymous Italian lover pushes story 2 ahead. Match B: Wow, both of these stories are fabulous. The twist at the end of story 2 made me smile, but I'm going to have give it to story 1. It had me engrossed from the beginning to the end and I know I'm going to return to it again and again!
• Judge 2: Whew! Double whew! These writers do not make this choice simple. I'm hot and I want more. My choices are: Match A: Story 1; Match B: Story 1.
• Judge 3: Match B: This has to be the best round yet, making my decision incredibly difficult. Both stories are so well developed, infused with humor, and sexy as hell. Seriously, I wish I could vote for both of them. While the dialogue in story two was fantastic ("And what needs to be done?" "You." - best lines ever!), my vote goes with story number one. I think the history between them, the slow reveal of her experience with bdsm, and the promise of a new relationship did it for me! That said, fantastic writing, both of you.
• Judge 4: What a climax! Was it good for you, too? :) Loved all four of these stories. All authors deserve high praise. My vote in Match A goes to story 2. Eccellente lavoro. And for Match B, I'll also vote for story 2. I love the twist at the end. I've really enjoyed being a judge for this Hot Off. Thanks for all the fun reading, authors.
• Judge 5: Wow, this is the hardest one of them all. Both stories in Match A are so amazing. The first one - it has enough of a sci-fi feel, coupled with glimmers of a back- story - I would be turning the pages, eager to know more. The second story is lovely and relatable - which one of us hasn't wanted to pick up and find magic in a foreign land? A hard, hard choice, but I'm edging towards Story 2. Reading about Juliana's hot Italian guy did a lot of fluttery things to me, and I think that's the definition of what a hot story is supposed to do.
• Judge 6: For Match A, I chose story 2. For Match B, I chose story 2. Great stories on each match! Great job guys!! :-) 
• Judge 7: These are by far the hardest match-ups to vote on. Stellar writing to all of you. As far as I'm concerned you are all winners. Very hot stuff. But since I do have to vote... For Match A I choose story ONE because the BDSM elements were scorching hot! Both were great! For Match B I choose story ONE but I must say, they both had plenty of cheek and humor. Well done.
• Judge 8: Match B - I salute both authors for their outstanding, well-written stories. Wow, this is a tough decision. I've re-read each story three times and I like them both almost equally. The BDSM scene in Story 1 got me going and I liked the twist at the end. Story 2 had the naughty aspect of the Boss Lady getting it on with the intern, nicely done. Decisions, decisions. I cast my vote for Story 1 - the flogging scene is near and dear to my heart.
• Judge 9: In both matches, Story 2 is the hottest for me--the illicit flings, dangerous places as far as getting caught, the quickies always do it for me.
• Judge 10: Emily was right. This week all four stories deserve to win. All were hot. All kept readers guessing with good surprises in them. All were unique. I've gone back to re-read a couple of times trying to decide and I am going to say in match one I think story two edged out story one slightly. The danger of getting caught. The hot, Italian guy and they couldn't even speak the language. What a great vacation that must have been. :) For Match two, I am going to say story one was the top one for me, but by a hair. I loved the twist of having Courage be the CEO and the guy be an intern (very naughty of her to do that with her employee) but story one clicked with me. She had been following him, going to the club and now they finally connected. Congrats to all of the finalists. You all deserve kudos.

So the tally is as follows:

Match A: Story 1: 2 votes; Story 2: 6 votes.

Have I dragged this out enough, now? Time for the big reveal?

In Match B, the consolation round, Tara Crescent (Story 1) faced Etta Stark (Story 2). Tara finishes in third place and Etta in fourth. Congratulations to both of them, and many thanks for their four incredible stories!

In Match A, the finals, Will LaForge (Story 1) met Justine Hollander (Story 2). Will takes second-place honors. Many thanks to him for his incredible stories.

Round 2, Match D results!

With this post, we have our four semi-finalists!

Here are the Match D stories, in case you missed them.

• Judge 1: Oh wow! Both stories are good so this one is a tough call. I do, however, vote for story 2 for packing a tad more of the evasive heat without even truly putting it out there! *fans self*
• Judge 2: I vote for story 2. Why? Because the writer "shows" instead of just "telling." I don't care if the sex was hot. Tell me why, and how, and how far. And leave me with that sense of "what the fuck just happened"?
• Judge 3: This one was very close for me, but I found story one just slightly ahead. Good job. My vote is for story one.
• Judge 4: More great writing. Kudos to both authors. I'll vote for Story 1. It was fun, and I liked the twist at the end.
• Judge 5: Two more nice stories. Both were sexy and elements of surprise, but I think I liked the story arc of the first story better. I liked the idea of them having such explosive chemistry together that Nick would drive through the night just to see her again. My vote goes to story one.
• Judge 6: Once again, a difficult decision. Both stories were well written and full of humor. While story two once again demonstrated the devotion Xander and Michael have for each other (I loved getting a part two to their story!), my vote goes to story one for the surprise twist that they were new lovers. Very sexy!
• Judge 7: Fabulous - another round with two more great stories. I salute both authors for their excellent work. Story 1 has plenty of heat and a smidgen of BDSM. My favorite line is - “Now let’s get the rest of those clothes off you so I can give you the spanking that you almost certainly deserve." He quickly figured out the way to her sex is to spank her ass. Story 2 - Is a continuation of one of the author's earlier Hot-Off submissions and I'm impressed with how she tied the two stories together. I expected there to be some repeat sex in the elevator, but the tease was still nicely done. It's a tough decision and I don't have a clear reason, but I vote for Story 1.
• Judge 8: Voting for story 2. Very hot. I love the theme of keeping an established relationship spicy!

Round 2, Match C results

Things keep getting tenser, and hotter. Only one match to go in this round, and then we'll have our four semi-finalists!

Here are the Match C stories, in case you missed them.

• Judge 1: These stories are both excellent and hot. Really hot. It's hard to choose one over the other. I'll go with Story 1, though Story 2 was wonderful. I like the twist at the end of Story 1. It's wry and clever. Great work on the part of both authors. I wish I could vote for everyone!
• Judge 2: As always, I'm pleased by the quality of writing in both stories. Story one left me wanting more. My vote is for story one. Great job!
• Judge 3: What great stories this week. Story two felt unique to me with several unexpected components (F/F, beauty salon, photography) and I enjoyed the visuals it provoked. I am voting for story one because it really had everything I am looking for in these short stories. It grabbed me right from the start and did a great job of leading the reader to the excitement happening in that car. The end comment/twist was a perfect ending to a sexy story. Great job to both authors, but my vote goes to story one.
• Judge 4: I loved story 1 - hot, hot, hot! Gorgeous word imagery with the red sign of the hotel flashing in rhythm with Dave's mouth. Story 2 was fun as well, but in the hotness department, I'm going to go with story 1.
• Judge 5: Wow. Fantastic. Outstanding. Every round so far has gifted us with great stories, but this round is my favorite. I tip my hat to both authors - simply outstanding. Story 1 is absolutely dripping with heat. I really like the way the author gave us a sizzling opening scene, a middle that provided the back-story and then looped back at the end for the 'climax'. Excellent. Story 2 drew me in and sent my imagination whirling. I know someone who could be Cora and I could visualize her making the same verbal gaffes. This story was engaging and left me wondering if Cora would take the bait and find out what else Zoey could do with her hands. Zoey actually reminded me of a character from the TV show - 'The L Word'. This is a tough decision and I debated on flipping a coin to decide, but I vote for Story 2. I liked the what happens next ending...??
• Judge 6: Both stories are quite hot, though I find story 1 to be a little less about the implied sex and more about the hot and heavy - which worked its magic. My vote is for story 1.
• Judge 7: While I loved the tease of Story 2, as far as hotness, Story 1 had it and then a tease.
• Judge 8: Voting for Story 1. I love how the relationship took a little time to develop. I also liked the unexpected theme that ran through the story. Story 2 was well written and had interesting developments.

• Judge 1: Story 1 was super duper hot! I loved the focus being turned around to be about  Mistress Maeve's fantasy!
• Judge 2: Story 1 is hot right off the mark. Story 2 is intriguing, makes you wonder, think. It's a difficult choice because both stories are so well done, both are an enjoyable read, and both pack some heat in their individual, and quite different ways. As one who prefers a bit more of the straight up and out there, my vote goes to story 1 for its incredible hotness!
• Judge 3: Both stories were excellent this week. And, as Emily pointed out, quite different. It's very hard to choose which one to vote for, but I'll choose #2. I enjoyed the word-pictures, the graceful flow of the prose, and the misty sexuality. I wish there was more!
• Judge 4: Both stories are well written. Story 1 really got my juices flowing though. My vote is for Story 1.
• Judge 5: This was a really hard choice but story one because of the lively dialogue. Story two is very, very well written and descriptive. Story one just pushed all my buttons. Great job!
• Judge 6: Oh my goodness... Two stories that quickly drew me in and made me want more. Both were exceptionally written. My vote goes with story number one. While story two was rich in atmosphere and romance, story one was playful, sexy, and the promise of kinky night of mfm excites the hell out of me! Bravo to both authors
• Judge 7: Voting for Story 1. It was very naughty - I liked it. Story 2 was very descriptive, visual and well written.
• Judge 8: Both stories, while very different in style, were excellent. The second story was unique and held a poetic beauty in the words and images it provoked. Still, I believe I enjoyed story one better. It was faster paced with a full story thread that kept me looking forward to what was coming. The chemistry between characters was even there, a hard thing to do with 500 words. I'm voting for story one.
• Judge 9: Wow, another tough choice. Brava to both of this round’s authors - exceptional job Ladies. I found myself aroused by the content of Story 1 and could easily picture the characters and setting(s), as well as empathize with their described feelings. I liked Story 2 for its creativity and ability to stir my emotions. I love the notion of a ghostly entity revisiting the location of a love making scene. I've felt that way, when I am revisiting a place where I've been with someone before and it's like standing outside yourself, watching as an observer, remembering... With much back and forth over-thinking, I choose Story 1 for the BDSM aspect and the heat factor.
• Judge 10: Both stories were great, but I had to chose Story 1. I love the idea of a Domme, even if she is being submissive for a time.

Tara Crescent, author of Story 1, goes through to the third round--the semis! The judges were unanimous, and I agree wholeheartedly, that Kiki Howell's story was absolutely wonderful. It made me want to give a special award for emotion evoked in a hot context. Many thanks to Kiki for two incredible stories in Rounds 1 and 2!

Round 2, Match A results

Round 2 started off with two amazing stories, and the voting was correspondingly close!

• Judge 1: Both stories were incredibly hot but I have to go with story one because it is more creative. I love that the couple is engaging in super steamy acts and unknowingly being exobishionists with a man stroking his cock on the other side of the wall. It adds another level to their playful passion, with just a tiny amount of creep. The second story is great but it's typical. She's getting punished, he's spanking her, then they are having sex... just doesn't stand out enough for me. Well done authors!
• Judge 2: I enjoyed both stories. I loved the love and connection of Robert and Julianna in story two. It was a good scene, but I think I'm voting for story 1 because of it's unique angle of having it at the Bates hotel and having Norman as a creepy voyeur. It had me guessing what was coming next and wrapped up as a nice little mini story. My vote goes to story one.
• Judge 3: The stories this week were of very similar quality and kinkiness, though the plots were utterly different. I'll place my vote for story #1. I found it very clever and twisty.
• Judge 4: Fantastic start to round two, both stories original and well written. Story one gets my vote. Norman Bates' lust leapt from the page and into my heart!
• Judge 5: Both stories are intriguing, and both clearly use the required word, *hotel*, but it's my opinion story two meets the heat just a little more. 
• Judge 6: Two hot stories! If I had to pick, I'd pick story 1 for the 'I do wonder what's going to happen next' factor.
• Judge 7: I enjoyed both stories very much. The subject matter of the second was far more appealing to me but I must give it to #1 for the writing style.
• Judge 8: Honestly, I can't decide! But I guess if going on just hotness, I'd have to go with spanking, Story 2.
• Judge 9: Voting for story number 2. I do love me some Daddy! Impressive that the story was both hot and playful in 500 words. I was totally sucked in.

Round 1, Match H results

Two wonderful MM stories to finish off the first round! Many thanks for them to Nya and Sessha!

• Judge 1: Thanks to both authors. The second story really captivated me from the start. I go with Story 2. Great job. 
• Judge 2: These stories only get more difficult to choose from! Both have that wow factor of hot, hot, hot! The word play in story one caused so much tension to build, while story two was descriptive and clear, almost as if it'd picked up where story one left off, in a way. As hard as this is, there's just something about story one that says, "choose me," so number one it is!
• Judge 3: I'm voting for Story 2. Both stories were very hot and well done. But, I preferred story 2 because of the tenderness in it. I think it's so sweet that one partner was helping out the other one get over his fear of elevators. :-)
• Judge 4: Story One was well written but it was too scary for me to read and I just couldn't finish it. It was too much for me. Sorry. Story Two on the other hand was hot and had an amazing ending. I love that it was his partner/boyfriend the whole time. Very well written! Both authors can do wonders with just 500 words!
• Judge 5: I'm almost speechless, which believe it or not, doesn't happen to me often. Wow, these two stories sent a rush straight from overwhelmed brain straight to my groin. Kudos to both authors for these well written shorts. Story 1 is cloaked in mystery and intrigue. There is so much going on I had to re-read the story a third time to pick up little nuances I missed the first time. I was left with a huge craving to read more and find out what the heck happened next. Bravo. Story 2 was pure heat and I loved the surprise ending. The scene in a glass elevator was extremely erotic and I'm sure a LOT of people have entertained the fantasy of elevator sex. What an innovative way to cure a phobia and I applaud the author for creativity. It's a tough decision, but I vote for Story 2 based on pure heat. The sex in an elevator fantasy is a personal fav of mine.
• Judge 6: I feel what was left vague in Story 1 made it hotter, as the mind went where the mind wanted to go, leaving the reader a bit breathless with their own desires.Sometimes, it's what not said, I guess.
• Judge 7: Voting for Story 2. I love that it was an established relationship and still hot!
• Judge 8: I liked the imagery of the first story. I enjoyed the second story more. I could feel the fear of the elevator and the short scene was a cute glimpse into their relationship. Loved the loathing comment. My vote goes to story two.
• Judge 9: Such amazing stories to wrap up Round one. Story one was incredibly unique in both writing and content - fear, arousal and shame leapt from the page leaving me unsettled and in awe. Story two gets my vote though, for both the impeccable writing and the flow of the story. Again, the descriptions detailed his fear and excitement exquisitely, and what first appears to be non-con is suddenly a love story. Not a big fan of the 'death box' myself - I might have to look into this particular brand of therapy.

Round 1, Match G results

I have to say that when I decided to take the plunge and try organizing this thing, I had no idea just how good the stories were going to be! Yet another week with two fantastic stories, and we've still got one more match to go in the first round!

• Judge 1: I feel like a judge on American Idol where every contestant is a potential super star. Reading these stories is like opening a box of chocolates, I never know what I'm going to get, just that every story will be good.This round was just good as all the previous ones, both stories are well written and they drew me in. Story 1 brought me to attention right way with the morning after one-night stand intro and I was able to easily visualize the scene. The dialogue was engaging and left me wanting to know about what happened next when the spanking started. Story 2 made me laugh aloud at the image of the Dominant with mashed potatoes dripping down his face. My next reaction was one of incredulity that the submissive in the story would react in such a way. I immediately wanted to know about their relationship and the boundaries they'd agreed to. All of my reactions made the story a fun read. In the end, my vote goes to Story 1. Story 1 left me wanting to know more about the couple.
• Judge 2: I'm going to go with Story 1 because in this instance, comparing the two stories, the fun of it made it hotter, the subject matter didn't require the depth of character that the subject matter of Story 2 required but just wasn't capable of within a 500 word limit.
• Judge 3: Both very hot stories, loved them both. Voting for story number two because it was hot and included some humor as well.
• Judge 4: Both stories this week excelled in character development despite the constraint of 500 words. My vote goes to story number one, though, for making me squirm and leaving me wishing for so much more.
• Judge 5: I'll vote for story 1. I find wild monkey sex (even in the past tense) to be pretty hot. The story was well-written, with good character development, despite the short length. I enjoyed their by-play and the way he teased her about the dungeon. Story 2 was also well-written. I anticipated the way the scene would go, and sometimes that's comforting.
• Judge 6: This was torture, plain and simple. Both stories were SOOOO good! Why am I being forced to choose?! Seriously, if it were up to me, this would be called a tie because each story was equally well written. But, since this is a contest, I have to pick Story 1. Story 2 was so fantastic too! I especially loved the cuddle scene after her punishment. To both authors, these stories were very well written! :-)
• Judge 7: Oh wow.... I honestly don't know which one to pick. Story 1 is just incredibly hot with the mention of a night filled with sex and not much getting to know you along with the new intrigue of a cane and her ass but Story 2 is so witty! I love that the heroine has thrown mashed potatoes and wound up in the corner about to be getting a very sore bottom. My goodness... I don't know which one to pick. I have to vote for Story 2....the tenderness there and his caring for her won me over. Two very very good stories. Well done, authors!
• Judge 8: Such decisions. Both were hot and exciting. I would be happy with either one winning, but I think I'll go with story #1 with my vote. Great job ladies.
• Judge 9: Both stories were great! Both contained the *hot* bdsm element, and both had the promise of so much more heat yet to come. This made it truly a hard choice, however, I will vote for number two as just slightly more - made so by some very vivid descriptions. I could literally *see* what was occurring. Nicely done!
• Judge 10: These both were great but I really found story one to be fun AND hot! Story 1 for me. Thanks!

Round 1, Match F results!

Just like two weeks ago, it's very clear that although the final vote ends up a little lop-sided, the stories were a lot more evenly matched than the tally suggests!

• Judge 1: I loved story number 1 so so so much!! I would buy an entire book based on that one excerpt! I need to know what happens next!! So well written and expressed and it drew me in I was so sad when it ended!!
• Judge 2: Both stories had great pacing and a wonderful sense of suspense. But I'm going to have to go with story 1 as the hotter of the two! The promise of Eldrin's punishment certainly left me all hot and bothered.
• Judge 3: Whew, this is a tough decision. I followed the advice, read each story - stepped away, came back today to read them again and I'm still torn. Each story is unique, well written and both leave me wanting more, which is a good thing. Story 1 has a paranormal, fairy tale quality to it and Story 2 is very much contemporary. Neither story is particularly erotic, but that's ok - my interest was still piqued. I see potentially more questions to be answered with Story 1, so my vote is for Story 1.
• Judge 4: I love how varied these stories are! Both stories were very evenly matched. Both had a solid story line, and both made me want to know more. If I was forced to pick one story,I'd give it to story 1 - because I'm a bit of a sucker for magic in stories. But it's really only by a hair - the second story was the more emotional read.
• Judge 5: Interesting that both stories had an element of dreaming or mystery. I liked how both drew me in, making me wonder what would happen next. It was close, but I'm voting for story one because it left me wanting to see more. Is love to know what her punishment will be. Well done to both authors.
• Judge 6: Wow! A tough choice - both stories are interesting and unique. My vote goes to Story 1. I liked the descriptiveness of the potion store and the mystery of what was to come.
• Judge 7: Oh wow. Two incredibly descriptive and powerful stories. Both drew me in very quickly. The first created a dream-like haze, where magic is real, and anything can happen. When the decrepit old man transforms and his hands lay claim to her with the threat or punishment, alarm turned quickly into excitement. The second story, too, created a rich atmosphere. Each step closer to the destination ratcheted up the anticipation and mystery, and in the moment they first see each other, the emotions were beautifully portrayed. The last passage was especially endearing, confirming that love knows no boundaries. A very tough vote to cast, but my vote goes to story number two.
• Judge 8: Both stories were great once again. However, since I can only pick one, I chose Story 7. I liked the mystery of the story and the promise of a punishment.
• Judge 9: My vote goes to Story #2. Story #1 got off to a great start, and I can definitely see how if you were into spanking, you'd find it hot. The characters are well written as well. Story #2 had good character development and foreshadowing. You just knew the partner in the house was going to be worth meeting. I liked the ending. It was snappy and different. Both were so good that I had trouble choosing. Good work, authors!
• Judge 10: Both stories contain a mysterious element, and both elude to a certain romance overtone. Both were a pleasure to read, but if I had to choose which one may just tingle my senses just a little bit more, it'd have to be number one for it's hint of naughty punishments to come in the story.

Round 1, Match D results!

This round was much closer than the final tally indicates, I think, as the comments reflect. Both stories garnered a very great deal of praise!

• Judge 1: I have to say that I am impressed each round by the quality of the stories. This round, once again in only 500 words, each author has painted a vivid picture of a scene that's easy to visualize and fall into. I've been the guy under the bed in Story #1, so I had an immediate affinity to that story. I loved the dialogue between the student and her 'jailer'. This is a well crafted 'little story'. Story #2 grabbed me by the xxx with the first sentence. I could almost hear the whoosh of the whip and I could clearly envision her reddening skin. Story 2 moves along with a quick pace and I was primed and ready by the conclusion. This story was well written and pulsing with heat. I vote for Story #2
• Judge 2: I'm voting for story 2. I really liked how it started in the present time and then walked you back through the events of the evening. Very nice and very steamy content.
• Judge 3: Story two was delicious. Opening with the traditional ending made it so much enticing.
• Judge 4: This is so exceptionally difficult. Both stories are hot as hell, both kinky. I'm going to, however, vote number 1 for that extra little bit of naughty school girl that appeals to me.
• Judge 5: I found story one hotter in the threat of a spanking. I agreed with the boyfriend under the bed, I got all turned on by just the idea of it.
• Judge 6: Story number 1 made me hot and bothered AND made me giggle and laugh outloud!
• Judge 7: Love both of these stories! So unique and creatively written, as all the submissions have been. Story one is sweet and funny, and the added twist of the hiding boyfriend in the end adds to the sexiness, but my vote goes to story two, for the sensual undercurrents and deeper passion that it invoked.
• Judge 8: I would like to first say, both of these stories were amazing. I had a very tough time deciding which one I liked better. But, after consideration, I choose Story 2. I loved how Anton guessed Lily's secret desire to be a submissive and boy did he fulfill it. Great job! :-) Story 1 was great too. I loved how Chrissy almost got caught and hid her boyfriend under the bed. Sneaky girl. :-) 
• Judge 9: Both stories were unusual, written in the present tense. I think they were a good match for this round. I would vote for Story 2, as "hotter," because of the tense, charged interplay between the characters in the flashback. I like the way they communicate. Story 1 has a lot of fine elements as well, particularly the way Chrissy's inner thoughts are presented. Good work by both ladies!
• Judge 10: Damn! They are both so good. I hate having to pick. I think they both should move on! The first one is funny and sexy! I loved it. The second one is very hot. If I had to pick, I'll go with two for the hot quotient.

Round 1, Match C "Results"

Well, I think these past two "matches" provided us with hot stories, even if the competition in them wasn't really real! Kiki's mystery opponent was Phoenix Johnson, who wrote the terrific Story 2.

Here's what judges said:

• Judge 1: Wow! Can I just say I'm happy I don't have to vote between these two stories! They are both great! Loved the little twist in the second one - a dream come true. Actually, a dream come true in both because a whole new world would be great too! ;)
• Judge 2: The second story is great. It's so deep and entertaining where less is more. 
• Judge 3: Both excellent stories, with interesting twists. I found the first story hot in the main part because it had sex in it. It was quite creative, and almost mysterious with its paranormal aspects. The second story was so clever! I loved the way the characters related to each other; it was very romantic. And the surprise at the end was delightful. Good work, writers!
• Judge 4: Well, well...both these two stories were entertaining reads. I'm a big paranormal fan and the mystical aspects of Story 1 cast a spell on me from the opening paragraph. I like the idea of forbidden lovers using their powers to thwart their enemies. Story 1 also had plenty of sexual heat to go along with the magic. Ah, Story 2. This story took me on a roller coast ride of emotions; despair, lust and at the end an expected surprise. I greatly enjoyed how the passion between the couple was woven into the story. I did not see the ending coming. Kudos to the author for keeping us guessing to the very end.
• Judge 5: I adored both stories. Both were impeccably written. While story one was thick with desparate passion and desire, story two was a love story at it's core, with an undercurrent of lust always smoldering skin deep and a union that will face any obstacles that life throws them, together.

Just to formalize it, then, Kiki Howell goes through to Round 2 and will face the winner of the upcoming Match D, for which I've now loaded the stories, in this post on the stories blog (it will go live at 1am Eastern US time, on Saturday 6 December). Judges, you've had a holiday from those tough decisions, but it's time to return to duty!

Round 1 Match B "results"!

A few judges kindly chimed in with comments on the moot match-up between Will LaForge (the writer of Story 1) and the mystery opponent (oh, alright--it was me with Story 2). Read those stories here!

• Judge 1: Both stories are quite intriguing, the heat begging to come to full exploration. I'd like to see the continuation of each. Nicely written!
• Judge 2: Story 1 was hot with the brief glimpses of the woman in the window and the guys reactions to her. I really want more of this story from the legend to what happened next and then some.
• Judge 3: Both stories were excellent, and so different from one another. Story 1 was easy to get into, with colloquial language and a fun premise. Story 2 was more formal, a different feeling, but equally hot because of the young woman's nearly palpable trepidation and fear. Kudos to both authors!

Will moves on, and will face Meredith in Round 2, in January! Match C will be posted on the story blog tomorrow!

Round 1 Match A results!

And now the first of the many moments we've been (and will have been) waiting for! The votes are in! If you haven't read the the wonderful stories yet, click here for goodness' sake!

Phoenix and Meredith both wrote terrific little stories, and they've both been incredibly generous and kind. I want to begin by saluting them, and thanking them for setting such a collegial tone.

Here are the votes. Most of them are edited for the kind of typographical issues that always happen when we're commenting on blogs, and excerpted to present the positive side of each vote. Judges, I'll be sharing your full comments (anonymously) with the writers, on their request--so none of your hard work will get lost!

Judge 1: In my opinion, Story 1 was the hotter of the two stories provided. The scene had very clear sexual intent. 

Judge 2: I'll vote for Story 1. It has many erotic elements. 

Judge 3: I thought both stories were well written. I have to give it to story 1 for including a steamy sex scene. 

Judge 4: Both stories were hot in their own way, making it hard to choose. But, if forced to pick, I would have to go with Story 2 as sometimes it is in what's not said, what's just alluded to along with the passion of the characters that arouses you more. Sometimes, depending upon the writing, there's something in the open possibilities that exist between a couple so in love. 

Judge 5: My vote goes for story number one. While Story number two is incredibly well written, and sweetly romantic, story number one was truly written to arouse, and it did! 

Judge 6:  It's a tough decision, but I'm gonna vote for story two. I liked the originality of the short story. 

Judge 7: I was more entertained and captured by the second story about Alex and Chaz because it left a lot to the imagination. The setup puts you in the room with the heroine and you get all tingly and giggly when the hero pops the question as if witnessing it yourself. It's powerful and sexy without being cliché'. Plus you want to know what happens in the actual bedroom and your mind can fill in the blanks! 

Judge 8: Both stories were very nice. I liked that they were both light and playful. Story #2 was very sweet. But since this is a Hot-Off - I have to vote for Story #1. Because - spanking! 

Judge 9: Both stories were really well done, and I was impressed with the depths the authors were able to go to in so few words. Well done! I am voting for Story 1 because I enjoyed it a little more, and was more "hot and bothered" by it. 

Judge 10: Story two was my favourite. The way the author set up a gentle tension really drew me and her pacing throughout was bang-on. 

Judge 11: Story 1 is lusty, full of heat and desire with a hint of BDSM...qualities I greatly appreciate in a story. There is little doubt she belongs to Him and they're both more than pleased with the bond they share. I almost hate to admit it, but Story 2 tugged at my heart strings...it was sweet and romantic, with an undercurrent of passion between the characters. He gets her, he understands her moods and he's attentive to her needs. He timed his proposal on the date of their anniversary, a date she'd forgotten...classic. Tough, tough decision. I vote for Story 1. 

Judge 12: Oh, but this is tough. Can I vote for both of them? If I have to pick, I vote for the first story. 500 words is insanely difficult. The first story did an admirable job of fitting in elements of both plot and sex with that word limit. Given that arousal is a judging factor, I'll therefore have to pick the first story.

Guidelines for judges

This message is intended, obviously, for the registered judges, but I think it's important to post it out here in the open, so everyone knows how judging will work.

First, thanks so much for judging! This tournament couldn't exist without your commitment, and I'm very, very grateful.

Second, here are the guidelines I'm hoping you'll follow to fulfill your (hopefully reasonably pleasurable) duties:

1. I will post in the Facebook event with a link to the stories for each round, which will be posted on a separate blog, at http://hotoffstories.blogspot.com at midnight the morning of the date announced for the round in this post. 
2. As soon as possible after the stories go up, please read them both. It shouldn't take long, since they're not allowed to be longer than 500 words. Please do not make up your mind immediately, if you can possibly help it.
3. At least 24 hours later, if it's at all possible to wait that long, please re-read the stories.
4. Now decide which one you think is hotter. Keep it simple. Which story aroused you more? 'Nuff said.
5. Submit a comment that declares your judgment, and gives a positive reason for that judgment. I can't emphasize this enough. I'll be moderating, and as an author of course I'm incredibly sensitive to the difference between positive comments and negative ones, so don't worry that you'll violate this guideline without knowing it: if necessary, I'll email you and ask you to revise, with a suggestion from me as to how you might go about it. Feel free to say as many positive things about both stories as you want, but please don't critique either story.
6. That's it (but see note below)!

Note below: if you're willing to share constructive criticism with the writers, please let me know via email (I'll remind you a few more times to do this if you're interested, but don't hesitate to mail me right now if you're willing). I will put you in contact with the writers privately, and they will be very grateful indeed to get your thoughts on ways to improve!

They should be submitted to my email, which writers should have from their initial confirmations, by 11:59 pm Eastern US time on the specified date.

First of all, enormous thanks to the amazing Selena Kitt for sponsoring the first ever (I think) single-elimination erotica tournament! Selena has graciously agreed to lend the name that says "the cream rises" to this affair, and she's offering the winner a highlighted spot on her blog when the whole she-bang finishes up! Also, promising stories will be considered for development and publication by Excessica!

Second, this post is going to give my best stab at how the thing is going to work. I hope, since no one is going to have very much on the line, we'll all be able to take events as they come and try to solve difficulties as they happen.

I'm thinking of this event as a proof-of-concept, and I'm hoping it will be relatively low-stress for everyone involved including me. Just remember that if something goes wrong, all you've got riding on The Hot-Off if you're an author is a couple thousand words, at the very most--and those words will remain yours until and unless Excessica wants to help you develop them, and you choose to take them up on the offer.

If you're a judge, all you've got riding on it is some cool stories to read and evaluate.

If you're a reader, all you've got riding on it is the possibility that something someone writes will turn you on, and you'll discover a new author.

The easiest thing is probably to start by laying the timeline out there with some specificity:

1 October: Google forms available for sign-up of authors and judges. Sign-ups for authors will continue until 15 October or until sixty-four authors sign up. Sign-ups for judges will continue until 15 October; there will be no limit on the number of judges. See below for details on participation for both authors and judges.

15 October: sign-ups close (if we haven't reached 64 authors). The "obligatory item" for the first round (something that every story must include or be disqualified--an object or a setting, for example) is announced.

1 November: first round match-ups announced, along with any byes. Schedule for first round match-ups set and published.

8 November: first round stories due from Round 1 Match A authors. 500 word maximum.

15 November: Round 1 Match A goes up on The Hot-Off. Judging by registered judges takes place for the next five days.

15 November: first round stories due from Round 1 Match B authors.

22 November: Winner of Round 1 Match A announced. Round 1 Match B goes up on The Hot-Off. Judging by registered judges takes place for the next five days.

22 November: first round stories due from Round 1 Match C authors.

29 November: Winner of Round 1 Match B announced. Round 1 Match C goes up on the Hot-Off. Judging by registered judges takes place for the next five days.

29 November: first round stories due from Round 1 Match D authors.

Now the details:

Authors: By signing up you commit to writing a maximum of six 500 word or less erotic stories (the number of stories will depend on the number of rounds you win) to deadlines specified by The Hot-Off, beginning in November, and always with several weeks notice. You also commit to accepting it when the judges vote against you with the same shake of your head you use for bad reviews on Amazon. You grant The Hot-Off a one-time non-exclusive license to publish your stories on The Hot-Off blog.

Judges: By signing up you commit to registering your name (it can be a pseudonym, of course, but it must be linked to an email that The Hot-Off keeps on file) as a judge and to getting behind your opinion of which story in the match-ups you judge was hotter. You will have to provide at least a sentence of rationale for each of your decisions, for your vote to count. You may vote on as many match-ups as you like.

Matches with tied votes will be decided by coin-flip.

The best damned open single-elimination erotica tournament ever!

The plan: 64 authors. 6 rounds. Each author writes one 500 word story per round, posted anonymously and judged in the open by registered judges. Let the hottest author prevail.
